Naked Emperors
Lately I have been digging the Stuff Christians Like blog by Jon Acuff. It’s a blog about, well, stuff Christians like. The blog is a daily chronicle of attitudes, ideas, products, creations, concepts, and traditions that make American Christian Culture unique. I think what I like most about this blog is the same thing I like about Donald Miller. Their style is humorous, self-deprecating, witty, slightly sarcastic, satirical, and fun to read. I’ve always considered my sense of humor to be self-deprecating, witty, sarcastic, and satirical, and I always felt that somehow that type of humor wasn’t acceptable for good Christians. Good Christians were positive and uplifting. While I have never been one to tear people down, I have often wondered why we always have to pull our punches. Sometimes the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes. I’m glad that Donald Miller, Jon Acuff, and many more new writers aren’t afraid to talk about naked emperors.

While I was in college I had got the opportunity to co-write and star in a short film about campus ministry. My friend Jonathan Boswell was having some difficulty writing a script about his faith that was relevant to his non-Christian classmates. He came to me with a fairly simple idea: he wanted to make a movie about how to stupid Christians look. We wrote this in one afternoon. A month later, we shot a movie with a crew of non-Christians all talking about who Jesus is, and how Christians often don’t show it. It was an amazing experience. Not everyone likes it, because it is definitely not your typical Christian movie, but I think we said something we wanted to say. Enjoy:
