If you build it …

I think Field of Dreams is a Christian film. I have no idea what the personal faith journeys of the film’s creators or the author of the book Shoeless Joe — upon which the film was based — look like. I don’t think they necessarily set out to create a “Christian” film. But when I see the faith of the film’s protagonist, and how his faith brings about redemption, I am reminded of the faith of our fathers, who followed burning bushes and built giant arks.

What makes a film Christian?

The object of my sarcasm is the legalism that desperately tries to show it’s ugly face the moment people start asking that question: What makes a film Christian? We spend more time making rules than we do listening to the quiet voice. Why can’t we just be Christian and make films? If we spend our time seeking God and His desire for the creativity he has given us, then we won’t have to worry about the “rules” of man.

Get Lost

I was the type of kid who used to think about time travel. I used to think about how it would work, and how the way it was presented on television was often contrary to how I thought it would work. As I read the work of C.S. Lewis, and the way he liked to think about time and God’s ability to be simultaneously in and out of time, it occurred to me that maybe the scientific questions I loved to ask were not far off from the theological questions I loved to ask.
